Northern New Mexico Open - 2013

Northern New Mexico Open

Albuquerque, NM—The GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour of New Mexico continued its 2013 season with the Northern New Mexico Open at the Pinon Hills Golf Course in Farmington, NM on Saturday, July 13. Sunny skies, hot temperatures, and light winds for most of the day made for a beautiful day for golf. The highly regarded Ken Dye course was in excellent shape. NM tour players fought hard on the tough course which demands that you keep your ball in play and handle the multi-tiered sloping greens.

In the Championship Flight, Alan Turney of Albuquerque won by a stroke over Greg Allen of Pagosa Springs, CO. Alan started off strong and struggled coming in on the back nine, while Gregory started off slow, made a come back on the back nine, but did not quite catch Alan.

The combined Palmer/Sr Palmer flight, was won by Lee Goddard of Artesia, NM with the low round of the day (37, 40 - 77). This is the first victory for the 2nd year tour player who has come close several times. Lee started off very strong, made a couple of birdies on an up and down back nine for a three shot victory over tour veterans David Baldwin, Darren Webb, and Paul Dominguez. By way of a scorecard playoff, Paul won the 2nd place prize and David won the 3rd place prize.

In the combined Hogan/Sr Hogan Flight, Ken Stopka of Albuquerque posted his 4th victory of the season with a solid 85.

In the combined Sarazen/Sr Sarazen Flight, Denver tour visitor Bill Tomcich of Basalt CO, posted a steady 86 to take his first victory on the tour. First year tour player, John Rocca of Albuquerque posted an 87 for second place and played very well except for 8's on the signature par 3 #6 and at #17.

In the combined Jones/Sr Jones Flight, Isaac Padilla of nearby Flora Vista NM, posted a solid 88 for a two shot victory and his 2nd win of the year. Mark Madrid tried to make a charge but came up short when he triple bogeyed the last hole.

Eric Greenwood continues to improve and also posted his 4th victory of the year with a steady 90. Eric is closing in on his goal for promotion to the Jones Flight.

Thanks to all of the NM Am Tour players and visitors for playing in the Northern New Mexico Open.

Note: The TOUR returns to action with the Paako-Ridge Championship on Sunday July 28. Please contact me by email or phone before the registration deadline of July 21, if you want to pay by cash or check for this tournament.
