Paa-ko Ridge Championship - 2014

Albuquerque, NM—The GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour of New Mexico continued its 2014 season with the Paa-ko Ridge Championship at the Paa-ko Ridge Golf Club in Sandia Park, NM on Sunday, July 13.  Once again, NM Tour Players had to handle bad weather.  Thunderstorms rolled through the mountains surrounding this excellent course bringing lightning, rain, hail, and wind for about an hour.  The storms caused some damage to the front nine of the course, but most of the players had finished the front nine before the storms hit.  Everyone was able to finish their rounds after a short delay.  

William “Bo” Galbreth of Albuquerque, NM captured the Championship Flight and his 3rd victory of the season with a very fine 76.  With his third victory, Bo has qualified for Nationals.

David Baldwin of Albuquerque won the Palmer/Sr Palmer flight with a steady 82.  This is David’s first win of the year.  William Fortner and Darren Webb tied for 2nd with rounds of 84.  All three players shot similar front nines, but David shot the best back nine, with a 40 in the middle of the storm.  Darren took home the second place prize via scorecard playoff with his back nine 42.

The combined Hogan/Sr Hogan Flight was won by Adrian Abreu of Las Vegas NM.   Adrian and Aubrey Johnson of Albuquerque both shots rounds of 85.  Aubrey was in the lead going into the last hole, but he took a double bogey on the tough 18th hole, and Adrian made par to tie him.  Adrian won the playoff on the first playoff hole with an up and down par on #10.  This is Adrian’s first victory of the year.  

The combined Sarazen/Sr Sarazen Flight was won by Phil Aragon of Santa Rosa NM.  Phil started off very strong with a front nine 40, struggled on the back nine, but no one was able to catch him.  This is Phil’s third win of the season in the four tournaments that he has played. He will be eligible for nationals when he plays in at least one more tournament.   

      

Douglas Christian of Albuquerque returned to the winners circle in the Jones/Sr Jones Flight and captured his 5th win of the season.  Doug struggled on the front nine with a front nine 50 and was trailing both Eric Greenwood and Sam Bolin by three shots.  However, the rain delay must have really helped Doug figure out his problems, because he fired a back nine 42 to win the flight by three shots.  Eric Greenwood came in 2nd with a 95 and Sam Bolin took third with a 96.
