Good Luck on the local tour out in Sunny California. Coming in a close 2nd for the second time this season was Ken Stopka who shot an 87 with pars on 11 of the first 14 holes before stumbling a bit in the closing few holes, due to Mother Nature with her high winds. Twin Warriors Championship

The weather for this weekends Twin Warriors Championship was very nice in comparison to the past few years. With temperatures in the mid 70's and wind speeds gusting to near 30 mph the stage was set for an exciting championship.

Making his 1st appearance on the local tour after placing 7th at the Western Masters that had a field of nearly 40 players tour veteran Shaine Hersey took top honors in the Championship Flight with a 79. Just two strokes back in 2nd place was Paul Bartlett with an 81. While Gary Franklin rounded out the top 3 with an 85.

The Palmer Flight was loaded up this week with a field of 13 players. Coming of a very frustrating disqualification at the Western Masters due to a scoring error by a fellow competitor Don Rountree shot the best round of the day. Firing an even par 72 to capture the top spot. Looking at the record books for the past few years this was the Best round shot at the very demanding golf course in tour history. 2nd place went to Paul Dominguez who made a hard charge at the very end with 3 birdies on the last 4 holes to shoot 74. While William Fortner came in a close 3rd with a 75 closing with a couple of birdies himself. Darren Webb finished 4th on the money list with a 78.

Brandon Drake walked away with his second victory in as many starts this year in the Hogan Flight with a very fine 79. Darren Baker came in 2nd place with an 83 and Dave Pritts rounded out the top 3 with an 85.

In the Sarazen Flight Ralph Anderson Jr. held on for a 1 stroke victory with 87 for his first victory on the tour. Samuel Felix came in 2nd place with a very fine 88 and Paul Chavez rounded out the top 3 with a 93.

In the Jones flight there was lots of excitement coming down the stretch. After moving up form the Snead flight after the first tournament of the year new comer Steve Roche captured his 1st tour victory of the year with a very fine 87 over tour veteran Phil Vallo who came in 2nd with an 88. 3rd place went to Ajna Seret who made a charge on the back nine but stumbled on the last hole to shoot a very fine 89.

In the Snead flight Kevin Rael walked away with his 2nd victory in as many starts this year with a 99 over 2nd place Bill Allen.

New Mexico Tour Open Results

The New Mexico Tour Open is officially in the books. This year’s season opener went off without a hitch. With the exception of a few wind gusts Mother Nature was kind to us this year compared to last year’s opener that saw all four seasons.

In the Championship flight it was a battle back and forth all the way with Jimmy Brown and Gary Franklin in a tie for 2nd place while eventual winner Luis Luna took home the Hardware.

The Palmer flight saw it biggest field to date with 15 competitors and 1/3 of the field managed to shoot scores in the seventies but Tournament Winner Alan Turney got off to an early lead on the front going 1 under and closed out the field with a 1 over 73 when the smoke cleared. Darren Webb came in 2nd place while new comer Gerardo Garcia rounded out the top 3.

In the Hogan Flight Brandon Drake also shot a nice round of 76 to take top honors while Steve Robbins and Ken Stopka tied for 2nd place.

Ron McCulloch walked away from the field by 6 strokes in the Sarazen Flight firing an 86. Ne w comer Paul Chavez took 2nd place while veteran Jeff Petrin rounded out the top 3.

In the Jones Flight another new comer this year Fernando Sanchez took the top spot with another new comer Jesse Hernandez coming in 2nd and tour veteran Ajna Seret came in 3rd place.

In the Snead flight it came down to a playoff to determine eventual winner Kevin Rael who edged out 2nd place finisher Steve Roche while Kyle Holloway rounded out the top 3.

The New Mexico Tours next event will be on Saturday April 16th at Twin Warriors GC. This event has proven to test even the best players, so bring your A game to this event. Registration is open now until April 9th at 11 AM.
