Twin Warriors Championship - 2014

Twin Warriors Championship - 2014

Albuquerque, NM—The GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour of New Mexico continued its 2014 season with the Twin Warriors Championship at the Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM on Saturday, June 28.  New Mexico Am Tour players again had to face strong winds on a sunny, warm day.  Despite the strong winds, several good scores were posted by the players along with some first time winners and the very rare occurrence of an “albatross”.
Alan Turney of Albuquerque, NM captured the Championship Flight and his 4th victory of the season with a very fine 76.  Alan trailed Mark Garard by three shots coming into the par 5 16th hole.  Alan sank his second shot on the par 5 for an “albatross” while Mark made a birdie!  Alan then tied Mark with a par on the 17th and won the playoff on the first playoff hole with a par.

Terry Freeze of Albuquerque won the Palmer flight with a steady 83 in the brisk winds.  This is Terry’s second win of the year.  Along with his strong T3  finish at the Western Open at Grayhawk, Terry is having another good season and has a good chance to contend at Nationals this year.

The combined Hogan/Sr Hogan Flight was won by Dave Pritts of Albuquerque.   This is Dave’s first victory on the New Mexico Tour.  Dave’s round started off slow with two double bogeys, but he straighten things out to finish with a solid 82.  Congratulations Dave! Rick Blose finished with a very strong back nine to take second place.

In the competitive combined Sarazen/Sr Sarazen Flight, James Jefferies of Albuquerque continues to play well and captured his second victory of the year with an 84.  John Rocca took second place with an 85 and Joseph Perez came in third with an 86.  All three players scored matching 44s on the front nine and each player improved on the back nine but Jefferies back nine 40 was too tough to catch.

The Jones/Sr Jones Flight also proved to be very competitive.  First year tour player Thomas Teschner of Albuquerque has steadily improved this season and has captured his first win on the New Mexico Tour. Thomas posted a steady 93 while Sam Bolin, Eric Greenwood, Stephen Inoue, and Robby Ray all came up one shot short with 94s.  Congratulations Thomas!  Robby Ray took home the second place prize via scorecard playoff with his strong back nine 41.

Thank you to all of the NM Am Tour players and visitors for playing in the Twin Warriors Championship.
