Bret Burrell Takes 2nd Place at the Northern California Championship

Congratulations to Brett Burrell for taking 2nd place in the Senior Sarazen Flight at the Northern California Championship on May 18-19. The tournament was played on the tough Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Courses in Monterey CA. Brett was in 4th place after a first round 92 on the Bayonet golf course. Brett shot an 82 on the second day, the low round of the day in the Sr Sarazen Flight, to vault into 2nd place. Isleta Eagle Championship - 2013

Isleta Eagle Championship

Albuquerque, NM—The GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour of New Mexico continued its 2013 season with the Isleta Eagle Championship at the Isleta Eagle Golf Course (Mesa/Lake nines) in Albuquerque NM on Saturday, May 11. Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and light winds made for a beautiful day for golf and many good scores were posted. Five of the six flights had winners for the first time this year.

First year tour member, Mark Garard of Farmington NM and returning tour member Gregory Allen of Pagosa Springs CO fought to a tie in the Championship Flight. Both posted strong rounds of 77 on the almost 7000 yard course. Mark captured his first tour victory on the second playoff hole.

In the combined Palmer/Sr Palmer Flight, tour veteran Paul Dominguez of Albuquerque also posted an excellent 77 (38,39) to capture his first win of the year. Terry Freeze also posted an very good round of 78 to take second place but could not quite catch Paul when he bogeyed the last hole.

In the very competitive combined Hogan/Sr Hogan Flight, Adrian Abreu of Las Vegas NM, posted the low round of the tournament 76 (39,37) to take his first victory of the year. Right behind Adrian were Ken Stopka of Rio Rancho NM with a 77 and Alfred Taylor of Chandler Az with at 78.

In the always competitive combined Sarazen/Sr Sarazen Flight, Larry Agan and Brett Burrell battled to a tie with solid rounds of 82. Larry struggled on the 18th hole in regulation, but took the victory over the steady playing Brett Burrell in the playoff.

In the combined Jones/Sr Jones Flight, Robert Visel of Los Alamos, NM captured his first win of the year with a 83. Three shots back with 86, were Isaac Padilla of Flora Vista, NM and Jeff Brown of Taos, NM. Isaac won the second place prize via scorecard playoff with his strong back nine 42.

In the Snead Flight, second year tour player Eric Greenwood of Albuquerque continues to improve and captured his second win of the year with a 91 and a four shot victory.

Thanks to all of the NM Am Tour players and visitors for playing in the Isleta Eagle Championship.

Note: The TOUR returns to action with the Twin Warriors Championship on June 16. Please contact me by email or phone before the registration deadline of June 9, if you want to pay by cash or check for this tournament.
