Tanoan Championship Recap

Tanoan Championship

Albuquerque, NM—The GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour of New Mexico continued its 2012 season with the Tanoan Championship at the Tanoan Country Club in Albuquerque NM on Saturday, May 26. New Mexico Am Tour players had to endure another really brutal day. Winds were gusting up to 60 mph, dust was blowing, smoke from a forest fire in southwest New Mexico was blown in over the city, and the greens played very hard and fast. Only four scores less than 90 were posted. Double digit numbers were posted on many holes.

New tour member, Ntengwa Mukosa of Las Cruces, NM posted his second win in the Championship Flight with an 87.

Alan Turney of Albuquerque, returned to form and defended his Palmer/Sr Palmer Flight win in 2011 with the low round of the day. Alan posted an 81 on the tough day. Lee Goddard of Artesia, NM came in second and had the second lowest round of the day with an 83. Both men avoided the really big numbers on their scores cards that were common for the day.

Brett Burrell of Albuquerque, also defended his Hogan/Sr Hogan Flight win in 2011 with a two shot victory, his first of the year. Brett posted an 89, the final sub-90 round of the day. Again the key was avoiding the disastrous hole(s) that plagued so many players. Rick Blose of Albuquerque continued playing well, considering the conditions, with an 91 to take second place.

In the combined Sarazen/Senior Sarazen Flight, veteran Samuel Felix of Albuquerque took first place with an 91. This is Samuel's third win of the year. Congratulations Samuel! First year Am Tour member, Ralph Anderson of White Sands, NM captured second place with a 98.

In the combined Jones/Sr Jones Flight, Jesse Hernandez of Albuquerque captured his second victory of the year with a solid 91. Stephen Inoue of Santa Fe took 2nd place in the flight.

New Am Tour player, John Mangan of Albuquerque, posted his first win in the combined Snead/Sr Snead flight.
