2013 Arroyo del Oso Championship

Arroyo del Oso Championship

Albuquerque, NM—The GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour of New Mexico continued its 2013 season with the Arroyo del Oso Championship at the Arroyo del Oso Golf Course in Albuquerque NM on Saturday, April 13. New Mexico tour players and visitors got a break from the cold and wind that we had in the previous two tournaments. Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and light winds made for a beautiful day for golf.

Second year tour member, Jason Thiele of Albuquerque posted his first win of the year with a roller coaster round of 83 (47,36). His excellent back nine 36 was marred by three 3-putt bogeys on #16,17,and 18.

In the combined Palmer/Sr Palmer Flight, tour veteran Darren Webb of Albuquerque posted an excellent 77 to capture his first win of the year. Darren started off strong with a front nine 37 and took a 4 shot victory in the largest flight of the tournament. Paul Dominquez and David Baldwin tied with 81s. Paul took the second place prize with his strong back nine 39.

Rick Blose of Albuquerque, posted a fantastic 74 (35,39), the low round of the tournament, to take the combined Hogan/Sr Hogan Flight by 7 shots. Ajna Seret of Santa Fe, NM continued to play well posting a steady 81 to take second place.

In the very competitive combined Sarazen/Sr Sarazen Flight, tour newcomers Lance Lackas of Los Alamos, NM and Thomas DeYoung of Sierra Vista, AZ battled with tour veteran Brett Burrell of Albuquerque. All three posted scores of 87. The 3-way tie was decided on the first playoff hole. Lance parred the par 5 #1, even after hitting a tree off the tee, to capture his first victory. Thomas DeYoung won the 2nd place prize via a score card playoff.

In the always competitive combined Jones/Sr Jones Flight, Mark Madrid of Rio Rancho, NM captured his second win of the year with a 91. Stephen Inoue, Doug Christian, and Jeff Brown just missed catching Mark, all posting 92s. Stephen won the second place prize via scorecard playoff.

In the Snead Flight, second year tour player Eric Greenwood of Albuquerque, captured his first win of the year and defended his 2012 victory with an excellent 85. His 85 is a personal best on the Am Tour. Congratulations!

Thanks to all of the NM Am Tour players and visitors for playing in the Arroyo del Oso Championship.

Note: The TOUR returns to action with the Isleta Eagle Championship on May 11. Please contact me by email or phone before the registration deadline of May 5, if you want to pay by cash or check for this tournament.
